GSFC/TOMS Aerosol Index (AI) Loop: The dust
is faintly visible over Texas on the 22nd, as a curved arc over the Gulf of
Mexico on the 23rd, east of Florida on the 24th, and further east over the Atlantic
on the 25th.
NOAA/NESDIS Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) Loop: The dust may
be just visible over the Gulf as a tiny blue area appearing on the 22nd.
On the 24th and 25th, small blue dots appear over Florida, in agreement with the TOMS
and the trend seen in the NAAPS surface concentration (below) though the lowest contour interval in NAAPS is too high to
see the dust transit Florida.
(The TOMS AI and NOAA AOD are combined with the NAAPS simulations below.)
Dynamical Forcing:
NOGAPS North America Loop : shows brief episode of high surface stress (red shades in lower-right plot) at 06Z on the 22nd along the base of
a trough as it deepens over Texas.
Aerosol Analysis:
NAAPS North America Loop: The dust first
appears at 00Z on the 22nd, as a large area, but then takes on a frontal shape with the
northern edge stretched NE by the warm advection ahead of the cold front, and the southern
edge heading SE with the cold front
