W. Texas Dust Storms, May 04-05, 1999
Observations:
North America Surface Observations Loop
: shows some evidence of reduced visibility and haze in Texas at 12z on May 5th.
Dynamical Forcing:
6-hourly NOGAPS North America Loop
: shows high friction velocities (red shading in lower-right frame) over W. Texas on May 4th and 5th.
Aerosol Simulation:
6-hourly NAAPS North America Loop
: shows small dust plumes emanating from W. Texas on the 4th and 5th.
TOMS, NOAA/NESDIS, and NAAPS Analysis:
GSFC TOMS Aerosol Index
: modified to be centered over the dateline.
GSFC TOMS Aerosol Index, NOAA/NESDIS Optical Depth Combined with NAAPS Optical Depth Simulation
: TOMS/AI and NESDIS/AOD both show something from Canada crossing the Labrador Sea on the 5th and 7th (smoke from fires at the south end of Hudson's Bay on 3rd-5th?). NAAPS shows unexpected Montana dust plume on the 5-7th.
