June 1, 2011: Makran Coast, Elevated and Boundary Layer Dust Event

Notice opposing dust plumes along the Iran/Pakistan border. Southward moving plume is elevated.
Northward moving plume is associated with sea breeze front; the dust is contained within the boundary layer.

Surface Observations loop Surface winds show offshore flow from interior locations to coastal sites along the Makran coast at the border of Iran and Pakistan. At 11Z a strong sea breeze forms. The boundary layer winds turn from northerly to southerly in direction.

Comparison 48h loop On loop, tau=18h shows offshore or northerly flow. At tau=24h the forecasted winds become southerly indicating the onset of the sea breeze.
