Description of MODIS AOD Data

Last updated July 28, 2011

The 1x1 degree averaged level 3 AOD plot uses the quality assured, data-assimilation quality MODIS AOD data. The data-assimilation quality MODIS AOD data were developed from the operational level 2 MODIS AOD products through quality checks and empirical corrections that are designed to reduce the uncertainties in the operation MODIS AOD data relating to cloud contamination, surface characteristics, and aerosol microphysics [Zhang and Reid., 2006; Shi et al., 2010].

The colorbar edges are at 0.0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.35, 0.4, 0.45, 0.5 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 and infinity.
