BACIMO 2005 Conference
October 12-14, 2005
The next Battlespace Atmospheric and Cloud Impacts on Military Operations (BACIMO) conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Monterey, CA.
Introduction:
The Battlespace Atmospheric and Cloud Impacts on Military Operations (BACIMO) Conference is a combination of the DDR&E sponsored Battlespace Atmospheric Conference (BAC) and Cloud Impacts on DoD Operations and Systems (CIDOS) Conference held separately in years previous to 1998. The conference objective is to enhance cooperation and coordination in all aspects of atmospheric, weather and cloud impacts on military operations among US military services, the civilian community, and other nations. BACIMO will focus on future missions and systems, and the continuing emphasis on joint operations, not only among the different branches of the military services but also with allies, such as NATO countries.
Two major themes for the BACIMO 2005 are the METOC impact on warfighting effectiveness and advances in Science and Technology areas. Under the warfighting effectiveness, we have the following subareas:
- Netcentric Warfare. In the netcentric warfare environment, how does METOC community react to the operational mode change of our military customers? How do we capitalize the advantages that the netcentric warfare offers us?
Netcentric Operation is a warfighting function that networks all elements of an appropriately trained joint force and integrates their collective awareness, knowledge, and experience to rapidly create new capabilities and achieve a high level of agility and effectiveness in dynamic and uncertain operational environments.
- METOC Impact (rules, thresholding etc). What are the advances in our community in METOC information delivery? What will be the most effective method to deliver the information? Is human forecaster still in the loop?
- Uncertainties associated with our products. All of us have been asked how confident are we in our forecast products? Do we have new ideas in expressing these uncertainties? In additional, are we helping the customers?
- Lessons Learned. We solicit contributions illustrating "lessons learned" from the operations support perspective.
The science and technology topics will include the environmental processes and phenomena analysis, exploitation of the sensor data, numerical model development and simulations, and validation studies. The tactical applications topics will include the Strike warfare, CB warfare, and atmospheric prediction and cloud impacts on military EM, EO, acoustic sensor performance, and modeling and simulations.
The conference is UNCLASSIFIED. All DoD agencies and their contractors are welcome; attendance by foreign nationals is expected. System designers, operational planners, and research scientists whose projects are related to weather effects on military missions will have an interest in both attending and presenting papers at BACIMO 2005. We look forward to a successful conference by your active participation.
Call for Papers:
The conference format will include platform presentations and poster session. Each oral technical paper presentation is limited to 20 to 30 minutes in length. Depending on the participation, extra poster sessions may be added to the Conference. No parallel sessions are planned.
