Continued from Headlines: The Unified Aerosol Experiment in the United Arab Emirates (UAE2) mission began on August 5th 2004, with Naval Research Laboratory as one of the lead institutions. NRL is deploying MAARCO to the area, and this mobile laboratory will be collecting data along with 15 AERONET Sun photometer stations, two radiation and aerosol super sites, a research aircraft with at least 80 flight hours and, likely, a research vessel. There are at least 30 scientists working in the field from over a dozen institutions, not counting the large South African and NCAR contingents. The UAE Office of His Highness the President, Dept of Water Resource Studies (DWRS) is providing substantial logistical support, including access to 5 weather radars and 50 surface stations. The total science team ultimately will be over 70 people, with 10 satellite instruments and 6 models being supported. Additional information is available from the official UAE website at: http://uae2.gsfc.nasa.gov/index.html (which will be enhanced regularly as the mission proceeds) in addition to the DWRS site: http://www.dwrs.gov.ae
