Protective/Mitigating Measures: Scheduling
- Southerly winds are locally know as "Lodos" winds. Strong WSW winds of 34 kts or higher occur 6 - 7 times a year during the period Oct - Apr. The winds are very gusty and sometimes unpredictable with the strongest sustained winds lasting 4 - 5 hours. These winds are funnelled at Aksaz from WSW and from SSE. Local authorities recommend ships wait at anchor until conditions abate.
